Charles Jorgensen
Charles has 32 years of experience in the financial services industry. He joined Glenrand MIB Limited in 1993 where he thrived and was made a Director of the Company at the age of 25. After seven years, he resigned from Glenrand MIB in January 2000 in order to pursue the goal of starting his own business – what is now JBL Wealth Management. He is a Certified Financial Planner and is a member of the FIA.
Charles has lectured thousands of people on personal financial planning and investing and has facilitated in-house training for management of companies such as ESKOM, GlaxoSmithkline, MTN, The Development Bank of Southern Africa, The National Intelligence Agency, and the Gauteng Economic Development Agency. He has appeared on SAFM and Radio 702 as a financial expert as well as SABC 2. Articles of his have been published in The Sunday Times, Business Day, Tribute and iAfrica.com. In his spare time he enjoys spending quality time with his wife and three children, photography and playing golf with his sons.
Richard Lascaris
Richard is the son of well-known advertising executive, Reg Lascaris, which has prompted most people to ask “why not advertising?” He answers that it is due to the fact that he has a passion for finance, through which he can help people realise their dreams.
In 2000 after having joined Liberty Life in 1998, Richard decided to start his own fully fledge independent financial planning practice. He wanted to develop a high level financial advisory practice with full independence as an alternative to traditional private banks and assurance houses. Jorgensen Lascaris Financial Services was formed back in 2000, which later became JBL Wealth Management due to the expansion of the business to other major cities such as Durban and Cape Town. Richard is a firm believer that in the financial services industry independence is the key to getting good advice, coupled with great results. Richard is married with three children.
Peter Berman
Peter’s gateway into the Financial Services industry dates back to 1997, where he progressed and headed up a telemarketing team, selling educational courses which sought to teach individuals and corporates how to master their money management skills, and improve on investment knowledge. He then entered the corporate world and found that his passion lay predominantly in the Investment arena.
Peter joined JBL Wealth Management in 2007. The fit was ideal as JBL Wealth Management had built a solid reputation in the investment arena in South Africa, and Peter could now fulfil his passion by endeavouring to create broadly based financial planning solutions for all his clients. Their national representation also allows the team to play in a unique and elite space in the Financial Services Industry. Peter is married and a proud father to his 3 boys. In his spare time, he enjoys running, riding the trails of South Africa on his Mountain Bike, and spending quality time with his family. Peter is delighted to be part of such an outstanding team and looks forward to many years of health, wealth and happiness.
Gavin Mofsowitz
After completing his post graduate studies in Investment Management and Financial Economics (Honours) at the University of the Free State, Gavin moved up to Johannesburg where he joined Investec Private Bank in his early career. Having gained considerable experience in dealing with high-net-worth clients and Family Office Wealth in the Wealth Management Division, Gavin joined the Treasury Desk where he spent 2 years looking after both listed and non-listed institutions and corporates. After spending a successful 5 years at the Bank, Gavin was approached by Alexander Forbes to join their Financial Planning Division. He spent almost 10 years advising both high net worth clients and large institutional retirement funds around all aspects relating to holistic financial advice and retirement planning. During this time Gavin gained a strong reputation with various boards of trustees and their members. Gavin’s passion for financial markets, economics and behavioural finance resulted in him being a regular contributor to Alexander Forbes’ in-house investment journals and various radio and television interviews.
Gavin joined JBL Wealth Management in 2019. He is passionate about helping clients navigate the financial journey, following strict protocols and principles around treating customers fairly and with the due care they deserve. Gavin has also firmly established himself as an advisor to both corporate and independent trustees and spends considerable time in managing trust portfolios and providing long term strategic asset allocation and financial guidance to trustees. Gavin has built strong relationships with his clients over a 17-year career in the Wealth Management arena and is constantly upskilling himself in this everchanging fast paced world. Gavin is a member of the FSCA and is also an accredited Certified Financial Planner.
In his spare time, Gavin is an avid endurance athlete and has participated in numerous Iron Man events and having a family with 3 young children keeps him busy on the home front.
Dawn Fryer
Dawn has 32 years’ experience in the financial services industry, having started her career in finance as a personal banker at Barclays Bank South Africa in the early 1990’s. She gained experience in personal investments and eventually headed up the personal banking division before moving to Maitland Trust. At Maitland Dawn administered trusts and managed personal investment portfolios. From there, she spent a decade with Barnard Jacobs Mellet (BJM), a stock broking firm that catered to the needs of high net worth individuals. Dawn originally assisted in setting up the wealth management division of the company, before taking on a book of clients’ portfolios which she managed on a discretionary basis. BJM was bought by the FirstRand Group in 2009 and Dawn became part of the RMB Private Bank Wealth team as a wealth manager.
Preferring a less corporate environment, she joined JBL Wealth Management in 2013 to manage her portfolio of clients in a more personalised environment. Dawn is a Certified Financial Planner ® and has the CAIB qualification obtained from the Institute of Bankers of South Africa. In her spare time, Dawn is an avid reader, and has a passion for dogs and travel.
Dean Cowling
Dean is the latest addition to JBL Wealth Management’s highly experienced team of financial planners. After completing his Business Science degree majoring in accounts and finance from the University of Cape Town (UCT), he went on to complete his articles and qualified as a Chartered Accountant (S.A.). After a number of successful financial management roles with JSE listed companies, Dean turned his attention to the investment arena joining 3PM Investments in 2015 as a listed property analyst and portfolio manager and then continued performing this role for Knight Capital from formation in 2018. Dean has a passion for safeguarding and growing client wealth. He enjoys wildlife and the outdoors, is an avid golfer and is currently the Vice Captain of Royal Cape Golf Club, South Africa’s oldest golf club. Dean is also a CFA level II candidate.
Tony Lochner
Tony has been in the financial services industry for over 39 years. Prior to joining JBL Wealth Management in 2003, he held senior management positions at both Sanlam and Momentum. During this period as a manager in the corporate environment, he gained valuable experience in building client relationships, business leadership and asset management.
Tony builds long lasting relationships with his clients and treats them as part of the family. He structures unique financial plans based on each client’s individual scenario, and maintains ongoing contact with his clients via regular reviews throughout the year to help them maintain their personal financial strategy.
Tony is married with one daughter and in his spare time enjoys the outdoor life – especially hiking and mountain bike stage races.
Nomvuyo Norman
Nomvuyo’s journey in the financial services industry started in 2001 behind the scenes as an administrator with Liberty Life. Nomvuyo later joined FNB Financial Consultancy were she gained broad experience in the banking sector before finally joining the JBL Wealth Management team in 2011 where she thrives on the great experience of striving to meet the changing needs of our clients.
Her passion for Financial Planning stems from experiencing how little understanding people at large have with money and the impact that this has on their lives. Hence the drive for her to equip herself with knowledge so as to help and simplify matters to those less educated. She completed her Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning with the University of Free State in 2017 and has since completed the Advanced Postgraduate Diploma in Estate Planning. When not at work Nomvuyo enjoys spending quality time with family or reading a good book.
Roland Boesch
Roland’s beginnings as an independent Healthcare and medical aid scheme advisor started 27 years ago at a time when the industry was affordable and relatively simple for members to understand. In that time he started his apprenticeship at what was then a very small medical scheme called Discovery Health and a year later moved across the road to join Glenrand MIB. While at Glenrand MIB, he headed up sales for SME’S and individual members.
After 10 years he was offered a role to head up health care at JBL Wealth. He was proudly appointed the advisor to FIFA, for the 2010 World Cup. Even though he advises corporates and SME’s, he still receives immense personal satisfaction helping individual members solve complex situations. Roland and his wife have two children and he spends his leisure time fly fishing , travelling and taking roads less explored.
Rob Knox
Rob started his lengthy career at Old Mutual Pensions in Durban in October 1979 and rose in the ranks. In the early 1990’s he qualified as a Pensions Fellow of the Institute of Life and Pensions Advisors - (ILPA), now known as the Financial Planning Institute – (FPI). In 1995, Rob left Old Mutual Employee Benefits to pursue his career as an Independent Retirement Fund Consultant, establishing his own consultancy practice, Rob Knox & Associates. He merged RKA with Jacques Malan Consultants and Actuaries in 2005. Rob eventually joined Simeka Consultants in 2013 to manage the consulting team who consulted to a range of retirement funds. He joined JBL Wealth Management in May 2021.
In addition, Rob has also been serving as an Independent Trustee, and then Principal Officer, to the Durban Chamber of Commerce & Industry Pension and Provident Umbrella Funds, an Independent Trustee to the Maxiflex Umbrella Provident Fund as well as the Fundwise Pension and Provident Funds, and is the current Principal Officer to the three Illovo Sugar Retirement Funds.
In his spare time, Rob is an avid Mountain Biker, and in his earlier years, could not imagine living without spending every spare moment surfing and competing with his now grown-up sons.
Rob credits his success in the Industry to the support of his wife Mary, who is also no slouch on a Mountain Bicycle
